While the service was confined to the four walls of a Centre for many years, Sumithrayo began to realize very gradually that volunteers had to be trained to reach out to those in need. Resultantly, most of the work is done today in the Outreach setting. Wherever there is distress, our volunteers have to find their way to befriend people in crisis and be readily available.
However we are extremely sensitive to the basic principle of respecting the privacy of the individual and we do not under any circumstances intrude into the lives of individuals who do not seek our help.
Hospital visiting, supporting the disabled and traumatized is a part of the daily routine of Sumithrayo service. “Suicide prevention and crisis intervention” demands our interaction with the community at the community level. |
